When Someone Dies

We Are Here to Support You Throughout the Process
The loss of a loved one represents a profoundly emotional and challenging period. At Lindsay Jack & Son Funeral Directors, we recognise the confusion and distress that can accompany such a loss. Therefore, we are committed to providing guidance, support, and care at all times.
Our dedicated team offers a 24-hour personal service, ensuring that assistance is available to you day or night. From the initial contact to the day of the funeral and beyond, we will accompany you every step of the way with compassion, professionalism, and dignity.
Procedures to Follow Upon a Death
The actions undertaken subsequent to a death are contingent upon the circumstances surrounding the event and the location in which it occurred. The following is a guideline designed to assist individuals in navigating the process effectively.
When Death Occurs at Home
In the event that a loved one passes away at home and the death was anticipated, the initial step is to contact the individual’s General Practitioner or an out-of-hours medical professional to confirm the death and to obtain a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death.
Upon completion of this process, you may reach out to Lindsay Jack & Son. We will facilitate the transfer of your loved one into our care with the highest degree of respect and dignity. Our team will respond promptly, providing support, practical guidance, and reassurance during this challenging time.

When Death is Sudden or Unexpected
In the event of a sudden or unexpected death, it is imperative to promptly contact the police. They will attend to the scene and initiate the necessary procedures, which may involve the engagement of the Procurator Fiscal and the arrangement for a post-mortem examination.
Despite the complexity of the procedures involved, we encourage you to reach out to us without hesitation at (01479) 872442. Our 24-hour service is dedicated to providing support and guidance from the earliest stages, working collaboratively with the authorities on your behalf.
Procedures Following a Death in a Hospital or Care Home
In the unfortunate event that a loved one passes away in a hospital or care home, the staff at those facilities will manage the initial procedures, including the notification of next of kin. Upon receiving this notification, we kindly request that you contact us to initiate the necessary arrangements.
We will communicate directly with the hospital or care home to ensure that all formalities are conducted with the utmost professionalism and discretion. Our objective is to alleviate your burden by handling all requisite communication and planning associated with this difficult time.
